HOUSTON – Houston Marathon had introducing a new sign-up system to participate in the event. Rather than accepting all who want to participate, the sign-up is now using a lottery system. The lottery organizer will then select (only) 22,000 lucky participants for both the full and half-marathon.
It's a bit odd, because the marathon itself was intended for a good cause, making money for charities. Rather than limiting the participants to a specific number, wouldn't it be better to let everyone participate?
No explanation given, but this will be the first time for the Houston Marathon to use a lottery system. Maybe by using this system, more money will be gained from the lottery sales. In fact, the charity thing lies on the amount of money collected, not the number of runners.
Registration for the 26.2-mile marathon will be opened at 6 am on Tuesday. For anyone who really want to do the run, I wish you luck.
