The former WWE executive Linda McMahon managed to defeat the final challenge from former Congressman Rob Simmons to win the Republican endorsement for Connecticut's U.S. Senate seat.McMahon successfully passed her competitors, Simmons and Weston financial experts, Peter Schiff, in the GOP primary.
Simmons could excel in the race when U.S. Senator Chris Dodd still plans to seek re-election. He stopped the campaign in May, after losing his party's endorsement to McMahon, and restarted his efforts through TV ads, reminding voters that his name was still on the list.
But McMahon who is using more than $ 20 of her own money in this race, did not care about his re-entry. She now faces Democratic Attorney General Richard Blumenthal in November.
